20 an hour 5 days ago 5 days ago 5 days ago Job Description This is the first level of the 9-1-1 Operations series responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency telephone calls from the public, emergency services providers and other public safety agencies requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services.
They are responsible for efficiently and accurately gathering information and making the appropriate notification for emergency services dispatch in accordance with established policies and procedures.
The Telecommunicator must complete the second level police dispatch training and become a Telecommunicator II within 9 months of being hired.
The next testing/interviewing window will be in July 2024 for a new hire class starting in September 2024 Position Information:
Five Factor Grade:
105 Start at Telecommunicator I-105 - $20.
20 Upon successful completion of paid and required training, new hires will be promoted to a Telecommunicator II (106 grade) - $21.
41/hour within the first 9 months of employment.
Typically, a Telecommunicator II makes over $50,000 per year in the first year.
Promotion opportunities in the 911 operations series include Telecommunicator III (107, $53,000), Assistant Supervisor (110, $64,000), and Supervisor (112, $72,000).
Current Cumberland County Employees will follow the County Promotion/Demotion policy.
Responsibilities Maintains confidential files, procedure records and log sheets for department.
Operates computer and technical equipment and provides basic equipment maintenance.
Interacts daily with public, government and public agencies, departments and field staff.
Enters incident information into computer files.
Processes various forms, reports and other department paperwork as required.
Keeps updated on all applicable policies, procedures and regulations regarding emergency services and related areas.
Possesses basic knowledge of geographical areas throughout the County.
Operates telephone and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and a variety of other communications equipment.
Must make quick and accurate decisions.
Maintains a positive customer service attitude at all times with the public and public safety partners.
Must become Commonwealth of PA Call-taker, IAED Police, Fire and EMS Dispatcher, and CPR certified within six months of being hired as a Telecommunicator I and pass Cumberland County call-taker examination.
Must obtain and maintain any emergency management training or certifications as required by the Commonwealth of PA or the County of Cumberland.
Attend training, seminars, in-services as required.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications Must become Commonwealth of PA Call-taker, Emergency Medical Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch, Emergency Police Dispatch, and CPR/AED certified within six months of being hired as a 911 Telecommunicator and pass the Cumberland County Call-taker examination Must become Commonwealth of PA Emergency Dispatcher and PA CLEAN Operator Certified within nine months of being hired as a 911 Telecommunicator and pass the Cumberland County Police Dispatch examination Must obtain any Emergency Management training or certifications as required by the Commonwealth of PA or the County Must possess knowledge of geographical areas throughout the County High school diploma or equivalent required Basic computer skills are required Applicants with current 9-1-1 certifications are strongly encouraged to apply Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older Company Description Mission Statement:
