8K a year 21 hours ago 21 hours ago 21 hours ago A Communications Officer receives messages via telephone, TTY, radio, or fax and transmits the information to the appropriate resources.
Related clerical work will also be assigned.
The Communications Officer works independently in accordance with established guidelines.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Receives calls of routine and emergency natures from students, staff, and others with accuracy, speed, and confidence.
Gathers sufficient information to assure an appropriate response.
Monitors College video surveillance systems, emergency telephone lines and fire/intrusion/panic alarms.
Exercises sound judgment to evaluate each situations circumstance and prioritize the need for immediate or emergency service.
Dispatches the assistance of appropriate services such as public safety, facilities management or other departmental personnel; or local, state, or federal public safety or health organizations.
Determines the level of response which may be necessary.
Maintains a log of daily calls, completes related reports, and performs other general office work.
Cleans and maintains the equipment and work area.
Operates a two-way communication system.
Processes and maintains transportation fleet requests, usage records, and parking registrations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications A high school diploma is required.
Excellent communication skills including the ability to speak clearly and listen effectively are essential.
Must be able to work independently and work well with others.
Must be able to remain calm, act quickly, and exercise good judgment in emergency situations.
Familiarity with two-way radios, data entry, and related communications experience is essential.
Prior knowledge of emergency practices and procedures is preferred.
Must be able to multi-task and be computer literate.
Must be dependable and be available for additional coverage with limited notice.
In the event of an emergency situation, may be required to remain at the communications desk past usual work shift A valid Driver's Licence is required.
Employees (operators) must have been in possession of a valid operator's license for not less than three (3) years and the license must have been in good standing without interruption during that time period.
Yes Successful candidate will also be required to complete ACT 153 Clearance Yes This position is considered Emergency Staff.
As such they may be required to report to work even when the college is closed or is operating under a delayed start.
